Devon Rex cats average 5 to 9 pounds in weight, and have a lifespan of 9 to 15 years or longer. They are a muscular and strong breed with a wedge sized head, large oval eyes, large low set ears, prominent cheekbones and defined whisker pads. The Devon Rex comes in many colours and patterns. Their coat ranges from a suede like feel to a full and wavy coat. They shed far less than the average cat. Although they are not deemed hypoallergenic, allergy sufferers may find they are not affected as much with this breed.
Devon Rex cats get along well and enjoy the company of people and other pets in the home. They are often found sitting on the shoulder or neck of their people or curled up with pet siblings. Being a moderately active breed, they are curious, comical and keen observers of their home, often following house mates from room to room. When not cuddling with a loved one, the Devon Rex is often seen perched on the highest spot in the room. Being intelligent, they are able to learn tricks as well as display a very loyal and personable nature; hence why they are often compared to a dog. The Devon Rex breed is gaining in popularity due to its friendly and amicable personality. Interactive toys, cat trees and affection from loved ones makes for a happy Devon Rex companion.
The Devon Rex requires minimal maintenance for health and happiness. Their ears may need cleaning once a week, and their nails should be trimmed every 3 weeks or as needed. An occasional bath may be required depending on the individual cat’s coat.
A balanced diet is crucial for your Devon Rex's health. Consult your vet for recommendations on high-quality cat food tailored to their needs.
Devon Rex cats are social creatures that thrive on interaction. Regular playtime and companionship are essential for their happiness.
Regular veterinary visits are vital for early detection of health issues. Keep up with vaccinations and preventive care to ensure a long, healthy life.
Engaging your Devon Rex in play helps stimulate their mind and body. Use toys that encourage their natural hunting instincts for maximum fun.
Training your Devon Rex can be a rewarding experience. Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behaviour and strengthen your bond. Being a very intelligent breed that enjoys interaction with their people, they can be taught various commands such as sit, come, fetch, and more.

Hi My name is Trudy Allen, founder of Truall Devon Rex. Born and raised on a dairy farm outside of Kingston, Ontario, I moved to Guelph, Ontario, after college, to pursue a career working with people. I met my husband and we had two beautiful children. For the last thirty years, working with people with special needs has been a very rewarding career choice. However, as a child, I spent countless hours in our barns, playing with and taming our numerous barn cats and kittens. I remember on one occasion convincing my Dad to tear down some of his new siding to rescue a kitten who had slipped down many feet between the hay and the siding. He was not a happy camper, but the kitten was safe. As an adult, I have always had cats, and spent a long time observing my good friend and current devon rex mentor’s breeding program. In 2019, I moved to Cambridge, Ontario and founded Truall Devon Rex, beginning a wonderful journey of breeding and showing these stunning beauties.
